Gandhi Jayanti


Gandhi Jayanti commemorates the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi was a freedom fighter who led India's independence movement. He was influenced by the teachings of Jainism and Hinduism, which emphasize non-violence and truth.


Gandhi studied law in England and practiced in South Africa. He was exposed to racial discrimination in South Africa.


He initiated the Satyagraha and Ahimsa movements while India was under British colonial rule.


He led various freedom movements in India, including the non-cooperation movement, civil disobedience movement, and Quit India movement.


Gandhi's leadership inspired millions of people around the world. India gained independence in 1947.
