The Bowder Stone is a massive andesite lava boulder in Borrowdale valley, Cumbria, formed millions of years ago from volcanic activity and transported to its current position by glacial movement around 13,000 years ago. Balanced remarkably on one edge, the stone likely broke off from King’s How during the last Ice Age. While its name may stem from the local word for "boulder," legend suggests it is linked to the Norse god Baldr, adding mythical allure to this striking natural landmark.
