Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(CBT)is simple talk therapy and easy to use technique. CBT was developed by psychiatrist “Aaron Beck ”in 1960s. It focused on dysfunctional thoughts, which cause the adverse emotional consequences. Dysfunctional thoughts are dispute to change the negative emotions.

It is mainly followed by different sessions, having a composite structure. I’m going to explain the second session of CBT that begins after the completion of the first session. In the second session, the client educated about the ABCDE model; that is, the activating event, negative thoughts about the phenomenon, and how these thoughts should be change with an alternative or positive thoughts to change the negative emotions”. The format of the second session is as follow:

The setting of Agenda: The therapist and client collaboratively set the agenda for therapy sessions. The therapist identifies and prioritizes which topics will discuss during the meeting, then it is finalized with the consent of the client. The agenda should be realistic and should accomplish within the session time.

Mood check/ discuss homeworkAfter the first session, a mood check is done, which helps the therapist to know about the client’s present temper. Self-report inventories and home assignments used to check the condition of the client. If the client has done the home assignment, it shows that chances for betterment are also present.

Formal AssessmentFormal assessment of the client done using some psychological tools like; BDI (Beck Depression Inventory), BAI (Beck Anxiety Inventory). These psychological tools help the psychologists to check the improvement of the client.

Share FormulationAfter discussing the main problem with the client, the psychologist will share the formulation with the client if it is true or not.

Disputing irrational beliefsAfter identifying the main problem, the psychologist will help the client to change the dysfunctional thoughts. A variety of therapies can use to punch the negative thoughts.

Use of other interventionsOther interventions like “hypnosis, guided imagery, and 16 muscle relaxation” techniques can also be used with the client to feel relaxed and better.

Assign the homeworkThe psychologist will assign home assignments to the client. The homework is to fix with the contentment of the client.

Feedback and closere client will give feedback at the end of the session. The follow-up plan for the further meeting also discussed with the client at the end of the second session.
